Thought for Thursday June 30
I will walk in the presence of the Lord, in the land of the living. Our God is in heaven; whatever he wills, he does. Their idols are silver and gold, the handiwork of men. I will walk in the presence of the Lord, in the land of the living.   Matthew 9: 1 – 8  Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said,  Why do you harbor evil thoughts? Do I ever harbor evil thoughts?  When am I most...

Try it out, give it to someone. What is something nice that you could do for a friend, family member or even a stranger today? Once you have thought of it, do it, and then move on to somebody else. Before long you’ll start seeing results, try it, it’s contagious.

Saint of the Day - Thursday June 30, 2011
St. Basilides (2nd century) Basilides was a pagan Roman soldier. He protected St. Potomiana from a mob while she was being led to her martyrdom. For three nights after her death, she appeared to him and told him that she was praying for his conversion. He converted and was later beheaded for his faith.

A Prayer of Surrender
Loving Father, I surrender to you today with all my heart and soul. Please come into my heart in a deeper way. I say, “Yes” to you today. I open all the secret places of my heart to you and say, “Come on in.” Jesus, you are the Lord of my whole life. I believe in you and receive you as my Lord and Savior. I hold nothing back. Holy Spirit, bring me to a deeper conversion to the person of...

The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him. I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the LORD; the lowly will hear me and be glad. The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him.   Acts 12: 1 – 11  Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the Church was fervently being made to God on his behalf. Am I fervently...

Surrendering Marriage →
The institution of marriage — which has been so disfigured by the sexual revolution, and feminism, then the lax divorce laws born of both — now bears no resemblance at all to the natural, sacramental reality that Western laws once were written to acknowledge and support. We really should call it something else. May I suggest “frenemies with benefits”?

Saint of the Day - Wedsday June 29, 2011
St. Peter (1st century) Peter was a fisherman before he was introduced to Jesus Christ by his brother, St. Andrew. Jesus gave his beloved Apostle the name Peter, meaning Rock, to indicate his authority. He was a miracle worker, even raising a person from the dead, and the first Pope. He died a martyr, crucified upside down.

Guilt & shame →
The children – and I call these “young adults” that, consciously intending to insult and demean them – were merely “expressing themselves.” They were never taught in school to trash streets, smash plate-glass windows, torch cars, or set murderously upon an individual who was chastising them. But they were taught to “express themselves,” and this is what...

The vote in New York to redefine marriage advances the cause of loosening norms of sexual ethics, and promoting as innocent – and even “liberating” – forms of sexual conduct that were traditionally regarded in the West and many other places as beneath the dignity of human beings as free and rational creatures.
