St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556)
After being injured in battle, Ignatius made a vow of chastity and lived in a cave for a year before making a pilgrimage to Rome and the Holy Land. Upon his return, his meditations led to the creation of the Society of Jesus, now known as the Jesuits. In his later years, he suffered from poor health and blindness.
